Dubai's Street Art Night 2014

1. Street Art Night Dubai 2014...
Although Little Majlis didn't stay as long as they had hoped (we weren't prepared for the chilly evening temperatures!), we could tell Street Art Night 2014 in Dubai was shaping up to be a goodie.

At dusk, the artists were into the full swing of things - lining the kerb of a temporarily closed Al Quoz street, bringing us live painting and a series of multi-disciplinary performances. And the evening wasn't just all about observing art - the event gave you an opportunity to mingle and chat with other artists and visitors, as well as participate in a little creativity yourself along the way...

2. - 7. Aerosol artists, including Dubai based Sya & Bow were well represented!

8. - 9. thejamjar easels & stools all set up getting ready for some pop-up painting action 10. - 11. One of the event sponsors, Arabtec, donated a bus to be painted at the event - its strange how doing something so simple can feel so naughty!

12. - 14. So much talent in this town.

15. - 17. We had to take a moment to stop and watch peoples reaction (or in some cases lack of) to these snippets. 18. This duo were happily strumming along to their own little tune.

19. Amazing.

20. And it just got busier as the night went on...

21. - 24. Elise Vazalakis Fiber works.

It was a pleasure chatting to Elise Vazalakis and witnessing her insitu project develop. Elise created these woven pieces over the previous months, using photos of local labourers and their colourful head wear (Gamcha), along with items found from various construction sites.

Elise would trade the mens Gamcha for care packages. Her Street Art Night installation stood as an instrument to highlight the labourers crucial part in the development of this city, where labourers photos were pinned to the backdrop along side her fiber pieces and visitors were encouraged to sign the wall, note the name of their home country and perhaps write a little something. Thanks Elise for taking the time to speak with us.

Elise is showcasing The Gamcha Project as part of Art Dubai 2014 at The Showcase Gallery - don't miss it!

25. More of those great shipping container hubs that Dubai Shopping Festival utilised so successfully across their pop up events this year.

26. The [sameness] project were getting a lot of attention with the Conversation Chair. If only we could hear what was being said - love this concept! 27. Live music... our favourite. 28. Thanks Street Art Dubai.  We look forward to your return next year.
